Last week we looked at some activities of people that should naturally be trusted around our children that made our hearts bleed. Today, we are looking at more of such cases.
Sometime ago, in Abuja, a family which was kind enough to open its doors to an Almajiri (an Islamic student who moves far away from home, to live and study under the guidance of a Mallam or teacher), lived to curse the day they opened their hearts to that young boy.
At the beginning, it was a symbiotic relationship. He used to come around to help out with odd jobs around the house in exchange for a plate of food and a little money. Gradually, they began to send him to the market. Shortly afterwards, they began leaving him with their children anytime they ran errands around the vicinity.
One couldn’t blame them, the young boy used to refer to them as Mama and Baba and treated the kids like his younger ones. That apart, he was so responsible and looked very innocent, like he could not hurt a fly.
One fateful day, the parents went out as usual and left this young boy with their 8 year old daughter. By the time they came back within the hour, they met their 8 year old almost lifeless. She had been mercilessly raped, her private part torn and bleeding. The clothes she was wearing were looking tattered as if they were torn by a tiger. Their nice boy was nowhere to be found.
Thankfully, the life of the girl was saved but she may never give birth due to the destruction the wolf in sheep’s clothing did to her body. Nobody could explain what he used to penetrate the 8 year old’s private part. But whatever it was, it must have been excruciatingly painful. The girl had since become a loner who never allowed her mother out of sight.
In the late 90s, in a high brow area in Jos, a lady came across 2 girls barely 6 and 7 years doing the unimaginable, one evening. She had just arrived home from the office and was settling down to rest for some time before going to the kitchen to cook. The lady said she was taken aback when she was hearing children groaning out of ecstasy. She laughed it away at first, thinking it was a bad joke. However, as it persisted, curiosity got the better of her and she came to her bedroom window to check. A terrible sight met her. Two familiar faces, one was lying down on her back with her legs wide open while the other one had her head in between the legs, leaking her private part.
The lady called another woman and together they pounced on the unsuspecting girls who were lost in ecstasy. The best they could do was to drag them to their parents for them to tell their parents what they were doing. They were severely dealt with.
But there was something one of the girls said when asked how she learnt what they were doing that hit home. She was the one from a rich home. The other girl’s parents were peasants. The girl said she watched it in the films that her aunts and uncles watch anytime her parents retire to bed. This means her aunts and uncles were in the habit of watching pornography any time the master and the mistress were not around. They were not even careful to restrict it to themselves. It was OK for their niece to watch and learn. And learn she did and put it into practice, recruiting another girl in such an act.
Parents have to be very careful or else people that live with you can corrupt your child and make him/her more a child of hell than of God. This corroborates this next story.
A woman took in her brother to stay with her when she got married. It was before his eyes that she began to give birth, build her family and business. Her brother stayed with her until he got married. Some months after he got married, he visited his sister while she was at the market. Unfortunately, it was discovered he had ulterior motives. He was caught in the very act of having sex with his niece. Upon interrogation, it was discovered that he deflowered her before she clocked eleven and he had been molesting her ever since. It was only discovered when the girl was in her SS2.
The sad thing about this case is that the girl’s mother, that is, the molester’s sister, withdrew the case from the police station on the grounds that it would become a very serious issue if her husband discovered it and that could cost her her marriage.
A lady shared her experience living in her maternal uncle’s house. She said the pervert deflowered her before the age of 10. He shamelessly used her as a sex machine but his wife never suspected. By age 12, he began giving her contraceptives since she had begun her monthly period but because she was just a child, she was never consistent which resulted in several unwanted pregnancies. By age 16, she had aborted several pregnancies for her uncle. His wife still never suspected.
She decided she couldn’t take it anymore, and ran away. To fend for herself, she became a prostitute but later cleaned up when she met a man that loved her and she loved him back.
There is no doubt that a lot of girls are dying in silence, their lips held bound by shame or even guilt. Some of them blame themselves for their misfortune and their molesters help them to feel that way so that they remain their prisoners.
In some cases, parents have aided the molestation of their daughters. In situations where we allow boys and girls to sleep not only in the same room, but the same bed. We sometimes encourage them to bath together or see each other naked. If you are in this category, please stop it. The heart of man is dangerously wicked without your help. If you can, please train your daughter yourself.
The stories are too many and more are still happening but for want of space and time, let’s save the stories for another day.
