BACAS old students put smiles on orphans faces

The national body of Bauçhi College of Arts and Science (BACAS ) Old Students Association has distributed food items, other necessities worth over #500,000 to orphans and patients on admission in Bauchi.

The items were procured from freewill cash donations made by the old students under its humanitarian outreach services to communities which are targeted at vulnerable members of the public.

Presenting the items at the Bauchi Orphanage Center to the officer in charge at the weekend, the National Chairperson of BACAS Old Students Forum, Barrister Fatima Abubakar, said that the gesture was to complement government’s efforts in the upkeep of the orphans and also identify with the children with a view to giving them a sense of belonging.

She disclosed that the money used for the purchase of the items was from free will donations by the old students. She therefore enjoined the management of the orphanage to make judicious use of the items for the benefit of the orphans under their care.

Barr. Fatima then prayed for God’s blessing, protection and guidance for the orphans. And further implored the children to study well, be of good behaviour and become responsible citizens in the society.

The officer in charge of the orphanage, Hajiya Mairo Malami, while receiving the items, expressed gratitude on behalf of the beneficiaries. She assured that it would be put to use for the intended purposes.

Malami then thanked the donors and prayed to God to bless their lives and the old students association at large.

Our correspondent reported that the Items donated at the orphanage center include: 2 bags of 50kg rice, 1 bag of 50kg sugar, 3 cartons of detergent, 3 cartons of soap, 3 cartons of pasta and 3 cartons of Macaroni.

In a related development, the old students also reached out to over 100 patients on admission at the Bauchi State Specialist Hospital. Each patient received a package containing one measure of sugar, one sachet of medium detergent and a soap.

The beneficiaries, their relatives and staff of the hospital expressed delight. They commended the leadership of the association for their kind gesture. They further called on other associations and individuals to emulate the philanthropic gesture of the BACAS Old Students.
