Bauchi to enhance moral rectitude

Bauchi State has concluded its retreat which had in attendance participants comprising of commissioners, special advisers, permanent secretaries and chairmen of local government councils.

It recently, rose up from its three-day event with a resolve to re-establish a Societal Reorientation Committee to enhance moral rectitude in the services and livelihood of the state.

A communique drawn from the retreat was read out by the Deputy Governor, Hon. Auwwal Jatau. It observed that there are stress related challenges at workplace due to several factors, hence the advise that motivation, leadership style stress management, diversity and inclusion, work-life balance and organisation culture should come to the fore

The retreat took into cognisance the monumental achievements and challenges and the “dogmatic changes that have taken place in the past four years of the state present administration.

The Transition Technical Committee, chaired by Professor Usman Bugaje, reviewed the document, ‘My Bauchi Project’ and came up with the successes and lessons of the first term tenure.

Also, the communique resolved that the reviewed ‘My Bauchi Project’ should be owned not only by Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed but also by all other members of his cabinet comprising Commissioners and Special Advisers. Permanent Secretaries and Local Government Caretaker Committee Chairmen, so as to take ownership of the blueprint.

It said there should be change of mindset on the part of the participants in the retreat, to be anchored on continuous public enlightenment and rule of enforcement, while Government should tap into global best practices, particularly Information Technology and Artificial Intelligence, as e-Commerce should be aggressively promoted, leveraging on Bauchi’s giant strides in ICT manpower.

The retreat resolved that a formula should be developed for aggressive exploitation of untapped natural resources endowment, particularly solid minerals and tourism, as well as up-scaling of infrastructure and bench-marking as a deliberate policy for establishing smart cities. And ease of doing business guidelines be enforced to attract investments, both local and foreign.

The resolution also seeks to promote human capacity development, competence and merit in the civil service, and among public office holders generally, and optimally implement “My Bauchi Project” for proper planning and budgeting to provide for the various socio-economic needs of the people of Bauchi State within available resources.

Retreat participants in their own right should imbibe the leadership qualities of knowledge, vision, humility, justice, fairness, tact and wisdom. They should understand and know the various types of power and how to exercise them for the common good of the people of the state, the retreat also resolved.

“Public procurement law should be strictly observed in the procurement of goods and services by the government to ensure transparency, accountability, value for money and curtailing of fraud. A central and viable data management system should be established to curb ghost workers syndrome and other fraudulent activities. A strong political will is however, required to actualise this process”

“However, in order to sustain the momentum, greater collaboration is required between state government, security agencies, community leaders and the generality of the people of the state. This is because security is everybody’s business. Furthermore, the approval of His Excellency, the Governor, to recruit 20,000 youths to become security watch dogs should be pursued vigorously. This should form the nucleus of proposed Kaura Security Model.

Participants expressed their immense gratitude to Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed for his visionary leadership and political will to convoke the retreat that unveiled the Second Term Blueprint on “My Bauchi Project” and the opportunity availed them to thoroughly discuss and build on the success.
