Collaborate in creating a better Nigeria – CLCN

The Catholic Laity Council of Nigeria (CLCN), held its 152nd National Executive Council(NEC) meeting at the Bishop Kelly Pastor Centre in Edo State recently with the theme,”The Role of the Laity in Parish Welfare.”

At the end of the meeting, it came up with the following resolutions:, which it made known in a press release jointly signed by Hon (Sir) Henry Yunkwap, the National President (CLCN) and Barr. Dame Chisara Egwim-Chima, the National Secretary General and made available to THE NIGERIA STANDARD : The Council has agreed with the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) on the call for all governments and citizens of Nigeria to collaborate in creating a better future and a better Nigeria of our dreams.

The statement added that the Council decries and condemns the pathetic insecurity situations in the country which is evident in the recent adoption of corps members in Zamfara State who were en route to Sokoto State for NYSC orientation and the attack at St.Raphael’s Parish, Fadan Kamantan in Kafanchan Diocese, where a seminarian, Brother Na’aman Danladi lost his life, and other attacks on innocent Nigerians across the country.
They called on the President of Nigeria to declare a state of emergency on the insecurity situation in the country and also work out permanent solutions.

The Council reaffirms her stand to continue in the fight for transparent, free and fair democratic process in Nigeria.

She also calls on the judiciary to be fair and transparent in resolving election disputes in order to restore the public’s confidence in the electoral process.

In addition, the council is directing the Family and Human Life Committee to take full responsibility of the Catholic Lay Missionaries of Africa (CALAMA) as one of the terms of reference to create programmes and policies to support the well-being of families and individuals.

In accordance with Christ’s mandate that we should make disciples of all nations with the intention that the Good News would be received, they enjoined Christian faithful to convey to others who are not aware of its content.

They also charged Christians to embrace Christian charity, both to the church and the society which would serve as a tool of evangelising the world.

Parishes are encouraged to embark on projects of welfare for the development of the youths which should be structured for continuity from one parish to another.

In conclusion, the Council urged the leadership of the Laity at all levels to make use of these resolutions towards the development of the Laity and the proclamation of the gospel of Christ.
