Federal University, Gashua in Yobe State, has on Saturday matriculated 1, 872 newly admitted students into various disciplines for the 2021/2022 and 2022/2023 academic year.

In a press release made available to our correspondent in Gombe by the university’s Head of Information and Protocol Unit, Mallam Adamu Saleh, it disclosed that the Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Professor Maimuna Waziri, made the disclosure at the occasion of the university’s 8th matriculation ceremony.

According to Waziri, the university has a name to protect, as such, it has zero tolerance for cultism, examination malpractice, indecent dressing, demonstration, corruption, thuggery, harassment, all forms of abuse, stealing, hooliganism and other forms of social vices capable of disrupting students’ attention to the pursuit of their academic success.

A breakdown of the admitted students indicated that a total of 1,669 were admitted through UTME while 203 DE students were admitted for the 2021/2022 and 2022/2023 academic sessions.

She stressed that based on the summary of the admissions for the two sets, the institution has admitted students from 34 states of the federation and Abuja. The VC added that the admission of students from various states indicates a good mixture based on federal character principle.

“You should note that FUGA is not a dumping ground for admission seekers but a place where all students would be judged based on the quality of our programmes and their performance,” she said.

She also stated that the hallmark of FUGA is academic excellence and pointed out that, “I therefore urge you to work hard and avoid any act that is not in conformity with the university’s rules and regulations as well as societal norms, because anyone found guilty shall be made to face the wrath of the law”.

While administering the matriculation oath to the newly admitted students, the university Registrar, Dr. Abubakar Mamuda, said that any student involved in any form of misconduct in the course of their academic pursuit should consider his or her admission terminated by the school authority.
