In an effort to encourage farmers to go into large scale farming of cowpeas in Gombe State, the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has distributed farm inputs to fourty-one (41) cowpeas farmers in Gombe State.

It was also intended to make the cowpeas farmers see cowpeas not only as a source of food for consumption, but as an income generation venture to mitigate the index of poverty in the country.

The distribution which was done with the support of the Gombe State Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Husbandry, saw 28 male and 13 female farmers taking fertilizers, seeds and other agro chemicals.

The farm inputs distribution is targeting farmers in the North east, North west and North Central regions of the country.

During the distribution exercise at the Gombe State Agricultural Development Programme (GSADP) office, the Agric Extension Officer (FMARD) Mr. Tambul Halilu, said the farm inputs were distributed to cushion the devastating effect of climate change on farms being experienced by farmers over the years.

He stated also that the distribution was a follow-up to the recent training the farmers received on resilient practices on climate change by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (FMARD).

Overseeing Programme Manager, Gombe State Agricultural Development Programme (GSADP), Alhaji Munkaila A Musa, charged the beneficiaries to use the inputs provided for the purpose of improving their standard of living.

He appreciated FMARD for coming to the aid of farmers in the region and the nation as a whole.
