Governor Lalong task PSN on fake, counterfeit drugs

Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau State wants the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria, PSN to pay more attention to proliferation of fake and counterfeit drugs in the state.

The governor made the call while receiving on a courtesy call, the President of the society, Cyril Osifo at Government House, Rayfield, Jos, Monday.

The Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria just like any other professional body was established to regulate the practice of the profession by ensuring ethics and discipline were observed.

Lalong represented by his Deputy, Professor Sonni Tyoden, appreciated the organization for the choice of the state for its conference and urged them to adequately brainstorm on how to control fake and counterfeit drugs in the country.

The governor also called on the society to develop a better mechanism for the distribution of drugs in the country.

He appealed to the society to discourage its members from leaving the country for greener pastures, assuring them that their challenges would be addressed.

President, Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria, had appreciated the governor for signing into law the establishment of the Commodity Management Agency, noting that this will strengthen the organization in the state.

He appealed to the state government to implement the Pharmacy Consultancy Cadre in the state, support the citing of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Jos Campus 4, JUTH Lamingo as well as provision of vehicle for the association to fight fake and counterfeit drugs pharmacy and medicine stores across the state.
