NIGCOMSAT tasked as sole indigenous satellite solution provider

For the umpteen time, the Nigerian Communications Satellite (NIGCOMSAT) Ltd, has been tasked and given the mandate as the only indigenous communication satellite solution provider for extending digital literacy programmes to rural areas of Nigeria.

This charged was given in a communique signed by Dr. Adamu Idris, GM, Corporate Affairs and Special Project NIGCOMSAT, at the end of the 10th National Regular Council Meeting on Communications and Digital Economy (NCCDE) held at the University of Ibadan International Conference Centre from Monday 5th –Thursday 8th December 2022.

The Council which is the highest body on Communications and Digital Economy in the Country comprised of Honourable Commissioners and Representatives of State Governments, Chairmen of Boards and Chief Executives of Parastatals under the supervision of the Federal Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy.

This year Council Meeting had as its theme,’ Digital Innovation and Entrepreneurship as a Panacea for Challenges to Sustainable Economic Development in Nigeria’, was declared opened by the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde, who was represented by the Secretary to the Government of Oyo state, Mrs. Olubamiwo Adeosun.

The Council which received a total of One Hundred Eleven (111) memoranda out of which Seventy-Seven were considered and Thirty-Four (34) were stepped down for various reasons was presided over by the Hon Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Professor Isa Ali Ibrahim (Pantami) FCIIS, FNCS, FBCS in company of the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr. William Alo.

Earlier in her vote of thanks, the Managing Director, NIGCOMSAT Ltd, Dr. Abimbola ALale, appreciated the work of the Council which she described as well articulated and implemented across board by all the agencies under the Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy under the supervision of the Hon. Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Prof. Isa Ali Ibrahim (Pantami).

Dr. Alale appreciated the hon. minister whom she said, appreciated the work of the Council and the entire team of the Ministry stating that, decisions and recommendations that came out from the Council Meeting are well implemented across board as it concerned every agency. ‘And on this note, l would like to thank the hon. minister so much because these are the things that formed the bedrock of the policies that the Hon Minister has rolled out in the last three and a half years since he assumed office. We have several policies and most of these were based on some of your recommendations, so the work of this Council is therefore, well appreciated’ she concluded.
