Niger NUJ, PPC lose member, correspondent

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Niger State Council says it received with shock the demise of, Matthew Jwantu, a member of the Correspondent Chapel who died recently.
It encouraged members to pray for the union and members generally in the state.

Late Matthew Jwantu, who hailed from Plateau State, was until his death, the state correspondent of The Nigeria Standard Newspapers, published by the Plateau Publishing Company (PPC), Jos Plateau State.

A very committed unionist, late Jwantu was also the current Treasurer of the Correspondent Chapel and had contributed immensely to the growth and development of the union and journalism generally.

The Council in a statement signed by the Secretary, Comrade Usman Chiji, indicated that the late youthful colleague died in Minna, Niger State capital after an undisclosed protracted illness.

“From God we came and to Him we shall all return, on behalf of the Council Chairman Comrade Abu Nmodu, with heavy heart, I regret to announce the death of a colleague, gentle, committed and dedicated, Comrade Matthew Jwantu of the Correspondents Chapel”.

The statement further indicated that, “Jwantu died after a protracted illness. We crave the indulgence of members to pray for the peaceful repose of the soul of the departed colleague. May his gentle soul rest in the bosom of our Lord Jesus Christ”, the statement concluded.
