The Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dr Oladele Alake, has reiterated the government’s commitment to diversify the Nigerian economy by shifting focus from hydrocarbon resources to the minerals sector.

During a meeting with the Miners Association of Nigeria, led by their National President, Mr Dele Ayanleke, Dr Alake emphasized that Nigeria has relied heavily on a mono-cultural economy for too long and that the time has come to prioritize solid minerals as a major contributor to the country’s gross domestic product.

The minister stated, “Our vision is to make solid minerals a source of pride and a significant contributor to Nigeria’s GDP. We are diversifying from oil to ensure the survival of our nation, and this is our contribution to addressing climate change.”

Dr Alake also highlighted the ministry’s commitment to enacting policies that will improve the regulatory framework and create a more favorable environment for both local and foreign investors.

Addressing concerns about the involvement of state and local governments in mining activities, Dr Alake assured that the federal government would engage with them to resolve any issues within the boundaries of the law.

He also revealed plans to deploy advanced technology and establish an inter-agency task force to ensure the mining sector operates efficiently and effectively.

The minister sought partnership with the Miners Association of Nigeria to enhance capacity and promote the growth and development of the sector.

Mr Dele Ayanleke, the National President of the Miners Association of Nigeria, expressed full confidence in the seven-point agenda presented by the Minister of Solid Minerals.

He believes that these initiatives, aligned with the renewed hope agenda of the present administration, will strengthen and elevate the mining sector, leading to significant contributions to national development.
