The Chief of Army Staff, Major General Taoreed Lagbaja, is receiving praise for his innovative efforts to transform sports within the Nigerian Army. Brigadier General Abdulrahman Bello, the Acting Director of Physical Training, spoke highly of Lagbaja’s support and financial assistance, which have propelled the army’s volleyball team, the COAS Spikers, to achieve remarkable success in the Nigeria Volleyball Premier League.
After the team’s impressive victories on Day 4 of the highly anticipated league, Bello stressed the significance of thorough preparations and training. He expressed heartfelt gratitude to God and the Chief of Army Staff for graciously providing the opportunity to showcase the Nigerian Army team to the nation.
Bello emphasized that the unwavering financial assistance and support from Army headquarters were crucial factors in the team’s triumphant performance.
The COAS Spikers faced a formidable challenge in their morning match against the Kada Kings, initially suffering two set losses. However, the team displayed remarkable resilience by turning the game around and securing victory in the ensuing three sets. Bello attributed this remarkable comeback to the unwavering commitment and dedication displayed by the players, who had undergone rigorous training during their time in camp.
In addition to the success of the COAS Spikers, Brigadier General Bello shed light on the revitalization of the COAS Shooters handball team. He underscored the indispensable nature of sports participation for the physical fitness of troops, asserting that the very essence of a soldier is contingent on their involvement in sports.
Bello expounded further, emphasizing that sports play a pivotal role in maintaining soldiers’ physical well-being, which is a fundamental prerequisite for their readiness to engage in combat and secure victories in warfare.
