THE Director General/Chief Executive Officer of the National Metallurgical Development Centre (NMDC) Jos, Engr. Prof. Linus Asuquo, has advocated for partnership with Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to extend kind gesture to their host community.

This came in a press statement signed by the NMDC’s head, Press and Public Relations, Sunny Eweama, and made available to THE NIGERIA STANDARD in Jos, the Plateau State capital Monday shortly after the collaborative unveiling of Road Safety signposts sponsored by NMDC and flagged off by Plateau State Command of FRSC at strategic positions.

The DG said the NMDC was poised to collaborate with FRSC to ensure that safety signs were

constructed and placed at strategic positions in order to ensure safety and decongestion of traffic within the visibility of the centre.

He however, frowned at the situations where corporate entities would be accommodated and in some cases protected by host communities, but no reciprocal gesture to appreciate the goodwill of those communities. And that he was moved by the desire to demonstrate how grateful the agency was to them

Asuquo said, “From inception, NMDC has enjoined a very good harmonious relationship with its host community, hence the need for us to ensure smooth traffic of human, goods and services within and outside the research and development centre. The construction of these road safety signposts was one out of other gestures extended to the host community.

“Other gestures include the consideration of indigenes for sanitation services , security services, free educational visits and lectures were granted to all categories of learning institutions within the community and the state, subsidized research analysis for students of tertiary institutions and so many out there respectively.

“I want to thank the Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps, (FRSC)  Plateau State Command, Corps Commander Alphosus Halim Godwin, for his visionary acumen to public and private organizations in the state to ensure that road users are well enlightened and educated through  campaigns and the use of inscriptional signposts to minimize road accidents”, he commended.

The DG assured the helmsman of FRSC, Plateau State Command that NMDC with the  mandate of adding value to all minerals and metals in Nigeria for economic benefits was always stretching  its hand of fellowship to partner with any private or public establishment that shared the same vision of turning around the economic fortunes of Nigeria through collaborative efforts in research and development.

Responding, the FRSC Sector Commander, Corps Commander Alphonsus Hakim Godwin, appreciated Engr Prof Asuquo for his astuteness and immeasurable transformation  taking place at NMDC, Jos saying, “it is only a leaders with passion and humanitarian charisma  that can extend their good will to their host communities.

“Iam only replicating the Road Safety template of my boss, Acting Corps Marshall Dauda Biu  in Plateau State and want to assure you that, FRSC will continue to collaborate with NMDC and other government agencies in Plateau State to ensure that FRSC’s core mandate of creating a safe motoring environment for the general public is achieved”, Godwin assured.
