PLATEAU State Chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists [NUJ], has donated relief materials worth hundreds of thousands of naira to the Mwaghavul Development Association [MDA] for onward distribution to the victims of the incessant unprovoked attacks who are currently in Internally Displaced Persons [IDPs] camps in Mangu Local Government Area.

Presenting the relief materials to MDA through the Chairman, Mangu Victims Support Committee, Chief Musa Pwol, the state NUJ Chairman, Mr Paul Jatau, said, this was their little way of demonstrating the union’s heartfelt condolence to the Mwaghavul nation following the unfortunate series of attacks on innocent people of the area.

Describing how worrisome the situation was, the chairman said whoever had visited the scenes of these attacks and has seen what happened, would definitely feel the same pains as them.

Earlier, while receiving the members of the NUJ on a courtesy visit, the Mishkaam Mwaghavul, Da John Putmang Hirse, CON, thanked the Union for the show of love to Mwaghavul nation, describing it as a great day for the nation that journalists despite their tight schedules squeezed time and resources to support victims of these attacks.

He said,”Mwaghavul people have been peaceful, that is why you can see different nationalities living and carrying out their businesses without any problem. But the story is different today. Almost all the villages have been deserted because lives and property have been destroyed.

“We urge you to rise up to your responsibilities to see that peace returns to the local government area by reporting the truth so that permanent peace will return to Mwaghavul land.

On his part, the National President of Mwaghavul Development Association [MDA], Sir Joseph Gwankat, said, Mangu is a commercial centre and the economic lifeline of the state and country, hence these attacks would affect the economic activities that would expose the state to hunger because the destruction of farm products were still ongoing.

He disclosed that the enemies of his people who are Fulani herdsmen have built up huts in the rocks and attack at will without any arrest being made. According to him“what is happening in Mangu is not religious because we have been living together with muslim brothers peacefully for decades. So, Fulani herdsmen are just enemies”, he enthused.

Chairman, Mangu Victims Support Committee, Chief Musa Pwol, said the donation has indeed lightened their burdens.
