PLASU VC pledges remodeling of the Institution

Vice Chancellor of the Plateau State University, Bokkos, Professor Matur Malau Bernard, has pledged his commitment to turn the university into a model citadel of learning that would stand out amongst its peers in and outside the country.

This was contained in a press statement signed by the university’s Public Relations Officer, John Agam, and made available to SUNDAY STANDARD in Jos, the state capital recently, shortly after receiving the President of Ron-Murwi Youth Progressive Association on a courtesy visit to his office in Bokkos.

The Vice Chancellor who welcomed the president and his members to his office said the university will impact positively in diverse ways on the host community who donated the large expanse of land on which the university was located in Bokkos and the other sixteen local government council areas that provide funding for the university to feel the impact of its employment and admission policies.

He said “new policies will be tailored towards the university’s self- sustenance and will also put in place the security architecture that would be re-jigged to provide watertight security for both staff and students.

“I want to appeal to those who may wish to settle in Bokkos to respect their host community and not to take the hospitable and peaceful nature of people for granted for their mutual benefits”, Matur advised.

He however, disclosed that the university was working on a Private Public Partnership template that would provide residential accommodation for staff of the university in no distant time to enable a smooth learning environment for both students and their lecturers.

Speaking earlier, leader of the delegation and President Ron-Murwi Youth Progressive Association, Bokkos Local Government Area, Comrade Mabas Ayuba Isa, congratulated Professor Matur Malau Bernard on his appointment, describing it as well deserved.

He said, his appointment as the fifth substantive Vice Chancellor of Plateau State University Bokkos did not come to them as a surprise considering his vast experience in both the University of Jos, Veritas University, Abuja, and as the Commissioner of Higher Education Plateau State.

The president said the purpose of their visit was to identity with him and provide the necessary support that would assist him to succeed in all the responsibilities ahead of him for him to leave behind enduring legacies.

“As part of our contributions toward the growth of Plateau State University Bokkos, we will complement on the efforts of security agencies of the institution through the provision of intelligence information that will help in curbing criminal activities thus enhancing the safety of both staff and students at the university.

“We therefore want to solicit for more consideration of our indigenes during employments and admissions. We also want to also appeal to the management to explore ways of providing accommodation for both the staff and management in the campus to serve as a way of building confidence among the students.
