The attention of Plateau State Government has been drawn to the public concern surrounding the list of beneficiaries selected to receive aid from the generous donation of N500 million to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and victims of attacks in Plateau State by Her Excellency, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, First Lady, Federal Republic of Nigeria.

This was disclosed in a statement by Gyang Bere, the Director of Press Affairs (DOPA) to Governor Mutfwang. The statement stated that these funds are intended to provide relief to those who have been adversely affected by the security challenges that have resulted in the loss of lives and property in several local government areas within the state.

Once again, the government and the people of Plateau State extend their heartfelt gratitude to Senator Oluremi Tinubu for her compassionate intervention. We want to clarify unequivocally that the narratives/list currently circulating on social media is marred by inaccuracies and should be dismissed. They are sponsored by individuals hell bent on discrediting government initiatives and resolve to ameliorate the plight of the victims.

We would like to reassure the public that we are actively working in close collaboration with the First Lady’s office to ensure that the financial assistance reaches the most vulnerable individuals who have been directly impacted by the regrettable violence and communal attacks in our state.

It is important to note that the initial contribution, a bank draft, was presented to His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Plateau State, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, without specifying the name of any beneficiary.

To ensure that intervention is genuinely disbursed, the government convened a meeting on Thursday, 14th September 2023, with the Transition Committee Chairmen and traditional leaders from the affected Local Government Areas. The aim of the meeting was to reconcile the list and rectify any inaccuracies, ensuring that the funds are directed to those truly in need.

Additionally, the government is working in collaboration with a bank, to establish accounts for beneficiaries who do not currently possess bank accounts. This will facilitate direct disbursement of the funds to the intended recipients.

We earnestly appeal to all citizens to remain calm and support the government’s efforts in seeking assistance from compassionate individuals, philanthropic organizations, corporate entities, and international bodies. Together, we can alleviate the sufferings of the displaced persons within our state.

Be rest assured, the Plateau State Government is committed to upholding transparency and accountability in this endeavor. The Time Is Now to unite and build a prosperous Plateau.
