Reps frowns at NDDC financial scam

THE House of Representatives Committee on Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has frowned at the non submission of financial reports by NDDC and the frivolons expenditure of funds without developmental benefits to the people of the Niger Delta region.

Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Olubumi Ojo (APC Ondo) revealed this at the ongoing investigative  public hearing organized to investigate financial malfeasance and other activities in the NDDC.

It would be recalled that in 2000, the National Assembly established the Act that birthed the Niger Delta Development Commission with a clear mandate to develop the land and the people.

According to the chairman, the forensic audit ordered by Mr. President in the NDDC must have been premised on some critical questions perhaps the unremitting cry of the people in the region and the need to see maximum value for successive allocation.

While reading out the expenses as allegedly made by the NDDC, he said the documents submitted by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and Auditor General Office, Ojo said the records showed an expenditure of N1.5 billion in five months with a comprehensive breakdown.
