Speaking during the “Ember Months Flag off Campaign Ceremony” at the Awoniyi Motor Park in Jalingo on Thursday, Sector Commander, FRSC Taraba Sector Command, CC Selina L. Williams, disclosed that 64 road traffic crashes were recorded so far in 2022 as against 98 in 2021.

“Number of vehicles involved; 88 in 2022 as against 150 in 2021. Number of people involved; 345 in 2022 as against 573 in 2021. Number injured; 163 in 2022 as against 362 in 2021 and number killed; 16 in 2022 as against 22 in 2021,” Williams disclosed.

She also disclosed that the Corp even recorded two consecutive months without any case of accident.

The Corps Commander attributed the success to the commitment of stakeholders in road traffic administration.

“The state and local governments of Taraba State, NURTW, fleet operators, NATO, hospitals, ministries/agencies, all security chiefs, professional bodies and other stakeholders…have indeed shown lots of commitment in road safety administration in Taraba State,” she added.

The theme for the 2022 campaign is “avoid speeding, overloading and unsafe tyres to arrive alive.” And it is hinged on enlightening the road users through various awareness and patrol operations which will help curtail and finally put a stop to these infractions, says the Corps Commander.

The Taraba State Governor, Darius Ishaku, represented by Dr. Ahmed Kara, commended the Corps for the reduction in road traffic accidents in the state.

He however called on citizens and road users to go for regular eye, blood pressure and blood sugar checks in order to prevent road crashes.
