Thugs kill 6 in Minna

Residents of Minna metropolis, Koropma, Ugwan Daje Limawa Obasanjo complex and its environs have continued counting their losses resulting from youth restiveness that broke out from Edil fitr Sallah celebration which claimed several lives in the state.

Sources revealed that since the day of Edil Fitr Sallah celebration, the alleged youths have continued their operations on daily basis without interference from the security agencies.

It was further gathered that the said youths including underage who are all male, operate along streets in Minna that include: Limawa and Obasanjo complex, Ogbomosho, Lagos Street, Mobile Roundabout to Keterin Gwari, Barkin Sale and Soje ‘A’.

Others are Angwan Daji, Bosso, Angwan Roka, at times Tunga and Maitumbi were most of them reportedly use as their hideouts.

Reports revealed that the youths involved used to come out around evening period between six to ten o’clock or around six to after seven in the morning to carry out their nefarious activities without challenges from any quarter.

According to reports, no fewer than five persons have been killed within the Sallah celebration period with several people injured. However, many residents lost their cell phones to them.

Residents have blamed the insincerity of the Niger State Government, security agencies and the traditional leaders in finding a lasting solution to the menace, while calling on the relevant authorities to as a matter of urgency find a lasting solution to the current youth restiveness in the state.

Some residents also blamed the state government, politicians, businessmen and traditional institution for bailing jailed criminals for political and selfish reasons at the detriment of innocent citizens.

When contacted, the Niger State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, DSP Wasiu Abiodun confirmed the attacks. He said that 37 suspects have been arrested in connection with the incidents, adding that police have responded in every situation as it occurred while the Command is reviewing the situation towards finding a lasting solution to thuggery and robbery in Minna.
