UniJos is enviable centre of learning – Mutfwang

The University of Jos has been described as an enviable center of learning which has maintained high standards of academic excellence despite challenges bedevilling higher institutions in the country.

Governor -elect of Plateau State, Barrister Caleb Mutfwang disclosed this when the management of the university led by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Tanko Ishaya paid him a courtesy call at the Jonah David Jang Lodge, Rayfield, in Jos recently.

Barrister Mutfwang promised to make them proud being an alumnus that has the opportunity to govern at the moment. He said everything possible would be done to change the Plateau narrative to the advantage of the citadel of learning.

He congratulated the university management because he said despite the odds, the institution has maintained high standards of academic excellence, adding that he was proud of the Faculty of Law in particular, because he posited it has become a factory that produces Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SAN).

The governor -elect attributed that feat to the quality of teaching at the faculty, adding that “I encourage you that the standard be maintained and we will look at ways and means of making the university education qualitative because the time and dynamics are changing. We must not only produce graduates that can only pass exams but graduates that are relevant that contribute to finding solutions to the challenges that confront the society “.

He further appealed to the management of the university as a big brother within university community in the state to look out to improve the Karl Kumm University and to make sure they grow as a center of excellence.

The Vice-Chancellor accompanied by the management of the university and the President, Student Union Government (SUG), Longmun Josiah Dakon congratulated the governor elect, saying the victory was a well deserved one and urged him to carry all along.

Prof. Tanko revealed that the university partners with the Voice of America (VOA) in organising debates for governorship candidates in the state. And made it clear that the institution was looking forward to a governor that would continue to partner with the university for the overall development of the state.

He revealed that the university has a Center of Excellence in Food Security and a Center for Peace and Conflict Studies amongst others where added deliberate efforts were being taken to provide practical solutions to the contemporary challenges that are confronting the state in general.

The Vice-Chancellor appealed to Mutfwang to look into the issues of insecurity affecting the university community, land encroachment, dualization of Bauchi Road to allow for free flow of traffic and to create a conducive learning atmosphere for students of the university for better academic output when sworn in.

The President of the Student Union Government (SUG), Comrade Longmun Josiah Dakon appealed to the Governor-elect to look into the issues ravaging the university community and solicited for public private partnership to build accommodation for indigent students.
