World Health Day: health commissioner commends WHO

As the World Health Organisation (WHO), marks this year’s Health Day and 75 years of existence, the Kogi state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Zakari Usman has hailed the agency in its task to provide good health for all across the globe.
According to the commissioner, “WHO has lived up to expectations in its ultimate goal to achieve good health for all using science-based programmes
The commissioner gave the commendation while addressing journalists  in Lokoja on Thursday in commemoration of the celebration of the 2023 World Health Day and 75 years of WHO’S existence.
The commissioner expressed delight that Kogi State government has enjoyed a robust partnership and collaboration with WHO in the area of polio eradication programme, Immunisation, surveillance and outbreak of dreaded diseases.
Dr. Usman also praised WHO for its quick response to other emergencies such as flooding and humanitarian crises.
He noted that since inception of WHO, Kogi has continued to lead the global efforts to expand universal health coverage through the co-ordination of WHO‘s response to health emergencies.
The commissioner congratulated WHO on its celebration of 75 years of eventful activities globally.
Responding, Dr. Sebastian Okwu, State Coordinator, Kogi Office, disclosed that WHO which was founded on 7th April, 1948, has the Theme of this year’s celebration as “Health for All”
He enumerated the main objectives of the establishment of WHO to include; Promotion/Keeping the health conditions of all safe worldwide, disease control, elimination of measles, control of seasonal meningitis and outbreak of dreaded diseases.
Dr. Okwu reaffirmed the determination of the agency to ensure that healthcare services get to the door step of rural dwellers across the globe.
Our correspondent reports that the high-point of the celebration was a road walk by members of health workers union with the Kogi WHO Office across the major streets in Lokoja, the state capital.
