Encroachment: Gov Alia tasks Urban Dev Board

Following gross encroachment on government lands and building on drainage channels in Makurdi, the state capital, Governor Hyacinth Alia has given marching orders to the Benue State Urban Development Board to within a very short time, identify and summon those that have built on waterways and those who have encroached on government lands to present their title and other relevant documents for assessment and verification.

Governor Alia gave the directive recently in Makurdi at the premises of Benue Links Company Limited where he went to inspect ongoing work on erosion control and laying of interlock.

The governor who expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of work, especially erosion control measures and interlock at the state owned transport company, fumed at the behaviour of those he described as saboteurs.

Receiving briefings from engineers at the Ministry of Works and Ministry of Cooperatives, Urban and Rural Development, Governor Alia said he was made to understand that there was serious encroachment on the company’s land by some individuals.

The governor in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Tersoo Kula warned that the state should not be made to suffer negligence and recklessness of some few individuals.
