THE Federal Government has again been called upon to tackle the trend of illegal taxation on highways in the country.

National President of the Northern Traders Union (NTU) Alhaji Mohammed Ibrahim (aka 86) made the plea Thursday in an interview with newsmen at the conference hall of the  Deputy Governor, Chief Crowther Seth.

Shortly after a courtesy call on the deputy governor, the N.T.U. President expressed worry that their members were being harassed on a daily basis by different tax collectors and security personnel.

According to him, in  response to a question, northern traders have so far lost goods worth about N447 billion to banditry, the EndSars protests and other security related challenges in the north.

“I can confirm to you that we have lost over N447 billion to these various crimes beside lives lost” the president said.

In a response to another question, Alhaji Ibrahim pledged his organization’s plans to revamp the nation’s economy including how to control Nigerian’s double digit inflation.

He stressed further, “that is why we have decided to play our modest role in rebuilding the economy of the north by availing ourselves to Federal Governments various interventions”.

Alhaji Ibrahim also assured that they were also poised at ensuring that they carry out their businesses in such a way and manner that should help stabilize the current double digit inflation.
