Gov. Bala Kicks off palliatives distribution

The Executive Governor of Bauchi State, Senator Bala Abdullkadir Muhammed, has recently, kicked off distribution of food, non-food items and cash as palliative to beneficiaries across over five thousand polling units in the state.

The palliatives distribution ceremony which kicked off at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Memorial Stadium Bauchi, includes eighty nine thousands bags of rice shared to twenty local government areas of the state, provision of Mass transportation busses to ease hardship, payment of #10,000 each to the most vulnerable citizens in the state and payment of students’ scholarship.

Other beneficiaries of the palliatives are state and local government retired and active civil servants who will be paid their outstanding gratuities and leave grant as well as payment of special allowances to volunteer health workers, casual workers and environmental sanitation agents.

Governor Bala Mohammed, while launching the exercise, said the intention was to alleviate the economic hardship being experienced by citizens following the recent removal of fuel subsidy by the federal government.

While appreciating President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for responding to the feelings of the people, the governor stressed that the gesture would complement his administration’s economic empowerment initiatives which, according to him, lifted a number of families out of poverty.

The governor assured that proper and adequate arrangements have been made to deliver the federal government’s message to the targeted beneficiaries in both urban and rural areas.

Bala Mohammed, however commended the chairman of the Palliative Committee, his Deputy Hon. Auwal Jatau and his team for a job well done. He also appreciated the Chairman of the Palliative Distribution Committee, Dr Rilwanu Sulaiman Adamu, the Emir of Bauchi and his members for doing justice to the exercise.

Earlier in their separate remarks, the Commissioner, Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Hajara Yakubu Wanka and Emir of Bauchi, Alhaji Rilwanu Sulaimanu Adamu, who is the chairman of the Palliatives Distribution Committee, assured of transparency in the distribution process.

They commended Governor Bala Mohammed for the opportunity accorded to them to serve their dear state.
Some people living with disabilities who are part of the beneficiaries, described the move as apt, noting that it would go along way in alleviating their suffering.

They however appealed to the state government to sustain inclusion of people living with disabilities in its economic employment programmes.
