Gowon @ 89: NGF salute him

The Chairman of the Northern Governors’ Forum and Governor of Gombe State, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has felicitated with former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon (Rtd), on the occasion of his 89th birthday recently,

The former military Head of State who fought to keep Nigeria from disentegration, clocked eighty-nine (89) years on 19th October, 2023.

In a birthday goodwill message, Governor Inuwa, on behalf of the 19 Northern State Governors, described General Gowon as an iconic figure in Nigeria’s history, who played a significant role in unifying the country and shaping the nation’s destiny with his visionary leadership when he served as Head of State.

He noted the commitment of the former Head of State to peace building, noting that Gowon remains a shining example of a true patriot and elder statesman whose life is worthy of emulation.

He said, “General Gowon’s sustaining efforts in promoting harmony, fostering cohesion among Nigerians through his National Prayer Movement initiative and other endeavors, continue to inspire understanding, good neighborliness and a high degree of unity and patriotism among the diverse people of the country. His dedication to the spiritual and moral wellbeing of the nation is higly inspiring.

“On this special day, the Northern Governors’ Forum, joins the nation in celebrating this remarkable and iconic statesman. We wish General Yakubu Gowon a very happy 89th birthday and continued happiness.

“It is our sincere prayer that Almighty God will continue to preserve this humble and great leader in good health so that his wisdom, vision, and love for our country will continually guide us in our collective pursuit of a better and more prosperous nation”. The Northern State Governors Forum Chairman stated in a release signed by Ismaila Uba Misilli, Director-General, Press Affairs, Government House Gombe.
