The Plateau State House of Assembly Committee on Works and Transport has sought the support and cooperation of Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) under its purview to boost infrastructural development in the state.

Chairman of the committee and member representing Langtang South constituency, Hon. Nimchak Rims made this known while on a familiarisation visit to the MDAs.

While at the state Ministry of Works, Hon. Rims explained that the visit became necessary in order to further strengthen the existing working relationship between the two, especially since it is a newly constituted committee.

Earlier, the Permanent Secretary Engnr. Beedee Bot while highlighting how critical the ministry is, said it oversees the planning, maintenance and infrastructural development in the state, pointing out that lack of funds, high cost of materials, coupled with the recent subsidy removal was affecting ongoing road projects.

On his part, the Commissioner for Works, Engr. Adams Bulus Legshak who noted that the visit was timely, appreciated the committee members for it. He added that even though newly appointed, he is still learning and observing a lot, assuring that they are partners in progress.

At the Plateau Express Services, it was a call for help as the General Manager, Mr. Samuel Gwott, represented by the Company Secretary, Engnr. Binchen Jantur reeled out some of the challenges bedevilling the company.

According to him, the building housing the company is no longer conducive due to its dilapidated condition, adding that many of the vehicles plying the roads are no longer motorable as they always break down while on the road.

The general manager appealed to the state government to come to the rescue of the company by providing it with a new structure, stating that the current building cannot be renovated having been built a long time ago.

The committee was also at the Plateau State Road Maintenance Agency ( PSRMA) and was received by the General Manager, Engnr. Davou Luka who reiterated the role of good roads in the society, saying that the present administration was concerned about the condition of roads and is already addressing it.

Responding earlier, Chairman of the committee, Nimchak Rims having noted most of the challenges highlighted, assured that the House as part of its legislative duty will look into them with a view to proffering solutions.
