Lalong admonishes Nigerians not to lose hope

DESPITE the numerous challenges Nigeria is facing, Governor Simon Bako Lalong has admonished Nigerians not to lose hope or despair.

He gave the words of encouragement in his remarks during the 61st independence celebrations of the country at the Rwang Pam Township Stadium Jos.

In the spirit of the celebrations, the Governor also granted pardon to four inmates, Obinna John Sagir Mukaila, Teryile Ishi, and Daniel Honok, who had been convicted of various offences and were serving jail terms in the Jos Prisons.

Lalong who attended the function in company of his wife Regina said after due consultations with the State Advisory Council on Prerogative Of Mercy in line with section 212 of Nigeria’s Constitution, all the pardons were granted for reasons of good conduct of the inmates.

Lalong said the 61st anniversary celebrations gives Nigerians the opportunity to celebrate achievements, reflect on challenges and project into the future.

The Governor inspected and reviewed parade and march past by paramilitary agencies, secondary and primary schools, boys brigade, Aid group of the Jamaatu Nasril Islam, Boys scout, Red cross society of Nigeria, among others.

He recounted the progress made in the country in the the areas of health, education, agriculture, infrastructure, and peace but also expressed worry that there are numerous challenges which the nation must address and overcome.

He called for unity in line with the ideals of the country’s founding fathers lamenting that acts of corruption, intolerance, indiscipline and disregard for the rule of law has created confusion in the national identity and aspirations of the country making the younger generation to be confused on what the future holds for them.

He listed the efforts his administration in securing peace and security of citizens despite the resurgence of violence in parts of the state and promised to ensure justice is given to those affected even as efforts to foster dialogue, synergy, collaboration, and forgiveness is intensified to sustain the peace of the state.

He equally challenged leaders at all levels to come together to remove impediments that are major stumbling blocks for national development.

Among dignatories that attended were Deputy governor Prof. Sonni Gwanle Tyoden and his wife Abigail, Chief Judge of Plateau State, Justice Yakubu Dakwak, heads of para military and federal and establishments, members of Plateau State Executive Council, Plateau House of Assembly, Traditional rulers and voluntary organisations.
