Lalong appoints Matur as VC PLASU

GOVERNOR Simon Bako Lalong of Plateau State has approved the appointment of Professor Bernard Malau Matur, as Vice Chancellor of the Plateau State University Bokkos following the expiration of the tenure of the former VC, Professor Yohanna Izam yesterday.

This is contained in a press statement signed by the Secretary to the Government of Plateau State (SGS), Professor Danladi Abok Atu, and made available to THE NIGERIA STANDARD in Jos, the state capital yesterday.

The statement said, “the Executive Governor of Plateau State, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Simon Bako Lalong CON, KSG, has in accordance with the recommendations of the Governing Council, approved the appointment of Vice Chancellor, Professor Bernard Malau Matur, as Vice Chancellor of the Plateau State University, Bokkos.

“Bernard Malau Matur is a Professor of Public Health, Entomology and Parasitology. He has held several positions in academics including Deputy Vice Chancellor Vertas University Abuja, Dean of College of Sciences, Dean of Students Affairs and Head of Department of Biological Sciences of the University of Abuja respectively.

“He has also been Head of the Department of Remedial Sciences, University of Jos among others. Until his appointment, Professor Malau was the current Honourable Commissioner of Higher Education of Plateau State. He is succeeding Professor Yohanna Izam whose tenure expires on Tuesday February 21, 2022”, it highlighted.

The Governor, sincerely, used the opportunity to express his appreciation to Professor Izam for his meritorious service to the University and wish him success in his future endeavours.

In the same vein, the Governor in accordance with the Law passed by the State House of Assembly, announced the change of nomenclature and upgrading of the College of Arts, Science and Technology, Kurgwi to Ignatius Lonjan Polytechnic.

The statement also revealed that, “the Bill for the Establishment of the Ignatius Longjan Polytechnic and for other matters connected takes effect from 2022, while the College of Arts, Science and Remedial Studies Kurgwi Law NO: 20 of 2000 and the amended law of 2005 are hereby repealed”.
