Varsity granted approval for post graduate, more courses

The Federal University Gashua, Yobe State, has secured approval from the National Universities Commission (NUC) to commence Post Graduate and additional undergraduate programmes.

The approval followed the successful resource verification of some programmes carried out by the National Universities Commission in July 2023.

Malam Adamu Saleh, the University’s Head, Information and Protocol Unit, in a press statement said the new programmes are to commence in the 2023/2024 academic session.

In a letter of approval from the Commission to the Vice-Chancellor of the institution, the list of the approved post-graduate programmes include, M.A and Ph.D. Islamic Studies, PGD, M.Sc. and Ph.D. Accounting, M. Sc. and Ph.D. Taxation.

Others are; PGD, M.Sc. and Ph. D. Economics, PGD Geographic Information System, M.Sc. PhD. Geography, PGD, M.Sc. MPA and PhD. Public Administration and PGD, M.Sc. and PhD. Chemistry, and PGD, M.Sc. and PhD. Mathematics.

Similarly, the NUC also approved additional undergraduate programmes for the school. They are: B.Sc. Microbiology, B.Ed. Guidance and Counselling, B.Ed. Educational Foundation, B. Sc. Ed. Agricultural Science and B.Ed. Primary Education.

Others are; B.Sc. Ed. Mathematics, B. Sc. Ed. Physics, B. Sc. Ed. Chemistry, B.Sc. Ed. Biology, B. Library and Information Science, (BLIS) and B. Ed English Language.

The university had received a resources verification panel from the Commission in July 2023 who assessed the facilities available in the university for the commencement of the postgraduate and undergraduate programmes.

According to Adamu, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Maimuna Waziri, said the introduction of post-graduate programme will no doubt nurture and promote the spirit and culture of research in the university which will in turn aid national development.

Professor Maimuna also commended members of staff of the university for their efforts and commitment towards the success of the Resource Verification.
