The Transition Implementation Committee Chairman of Pankshin Local Government Council Hon. Samuel Shangka Go’ar has stressed the need for people to inculcate responsible fundamental sanitation habits especially by providing dustbins in their various houses, offices and business premises in order to control random disposal of waste.
Hon. Samuel Go’ar stated this while addressing officials of monthly environmental sanitation exercise at the Pankshin Youth Centre represented by his Personal Assistant (PA), Mr. Joshua.
He said that the re-introduction of the monthly environmental sanitation by the ‘Time is Now’ administration under the able leadership of Governor Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang of Plateau State, is commendable. He pointed out that the sanitation day no doubt marks another attempt to reinvigorate government’s efforts in sanitising the public towards putting into practice healthy habits.
He said many people had over the years undermined the environment, thus environmental sanitation had remained consistently poor, in spite of the high level of enlightenment and education on the part of the people of the local government area. The Chairman stressed that waste management services in the society are generally ineffective, while slum and shanties areas still characterise the local government headquarters-Pankshin.
He however called on corporate organisations to always show concern about the environment as well as sponsor sanitation activities  in some Local Government Areas of the State.
The council Chairman representative added that Barr. Caleb Mutfwang led administration in the state has made deliberate efforts to upgrade our urban slums and squatter settlements in the state in order to promote sanitation, security, aesthetics, recreation, tourism, especially for the general well-being and sustainable development of the state.
The Director, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) Department of Pankshin Local Government Council, Mr. Bulus Joseph Ajang said communities on their part should also design and designate accessible areas for collection of waste, stressing that they should also organise local sanitation activities as part of their community development and self help programmes in order to achieve a clean and healthy environment.
He urged people to support the government in order to sustain the laudable projects of ensuring good sanitation among others. He added that people should also see themselves as  major stakeholders in keeping our environment clean, pointing out that a healthy society is no doubt desirable.
He therefore said as monitoring  officials of the monthly environmental sanitation exercise in the local government area, they should step it down to the people in their various community, the importance of being a healthy society. And added that many residents still lack adequate sanitary facilities, adding that these negative attitudes exhibited by some members of the public tend to slow down government’s efforts in ensuring a healthy and productive citizenry. and he warned the public against not adhering strictly to the environmental sanitation exercise time and that He warned that henceforth, anybody caught breaking the rule act will be made to pay a fine because the next environmental sanitation exercise, a special mobile court would be constituted to deal with defaulters during the exercise.
Therefore, directed all the monitoring teams for the exercise to carefully monitor all the areas visited, particularly the cleaning of drainage.
