Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang of Plateau State has applauded the efforts of the United Nations Children Education Fund (UNICEF) for their quick intervention in mobilising medical personnel, resources and medications to the Internally Displaced Persons(IDPs) camps to treat and take care of people affected by the killings of innocent people across the state.

He made this known when Dr. Tushar Rane, UNICEF, Chief Field Officer Bauchi and his team paid a courtesy visit to the governor at the Old Government House , Rayfield, Jos recently.

According to Governor Mutfwang, UNICEF was a partner in progress that was always in the forefront, assisting victims of displacements , helping in areas of education to children as well as providing potable and safe water to the populace. He urged them not to relent but do more in that regard.

The governor appealed to UNICEF not to be tired of providing to humanity but stressed that he would be very happy if their organisation would ensure that the displaced people were settled back to their ancestral homes.

Mutfwang said that the state government would continue to collaborate with international partners in the area of health as well as other critical sectors for the development of the state.

Earlier, the UNICEF Chief Field Officer, Bauchi, Dr. Tushar Rane explained that they were in the state to condole with the governor and the people of the state over the senseless killings that took place recently which he noted that the children were mostly affected which has disrupted their education.

The chief field officer said that as a result of the barbaric killings which has displaced thousands of people from their homes, UNICEF immediately swung into action by deploying medical supplies to the affected places.

According to Dr. Rane, they also set up temporary health clinics as well, to provide services to individuals who are in need. He said that UNICEF has so far attended to and treated over 187,000 people with different ailments as a result of hardship faced by the crisis.

He thanked the governor for his assistance and called for both UNICEF and the state government to collaborate for the interest of all.
