From JOHN FWAH, Kaduna

Senator representing Southern Kaduna Senatorial District at the National Assembly, Senator Sunday Marshal Katung, has pointed out that the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Major General Christopher Musa, is not a Chief of Defence Staff for Southern Kaduna. He is a Chief of Defence Staff for Nigeria.

He said, “As for insecurity in Southern Kaduna, If you are a student of history and contemporary history in particular, you will know that insecurity has bedeviled the entire country, not just Southern Kaduna,” the lawmaker explained.

Senator Katung also disclosed that the Senate is making efforts to make laws that will fight insecurity and poverty across the country to the barest minimum.

This is just as he said that the government can not run away from the fact that “Nigerians are simply tired of insecurity.”

The lawmaker was responding to questions from journalists shortly after a thanksgiving service in honour of Most Reverend Timothy Yahaya over his promotion to the level of Archbishop in the Anglican communion, Kaduna province recently. He said that the legislature, executive and the Service Chiefs are already working together to end insecurity in the country.

According to the lawmaker, “if necessary measures were put in place before the removal of fuel subsidy, people wouldn’t have been subjected to too much suffering that they are currently going through.

“The major role of legislature is lawmaking, so we are bringing laws to ensure that insecurity and poverty are eliminated. And this can be achieved through collaborations with the executive.

“So, we are doing the best we can, to see that the people do not suffer unnecessarily on account of this equivalent of fuel subsidy. While subsidy removal is good, there should be measures to ensure that people are not subjected to too much suffering.

The lawmaker allayed Nigeria’s fear, by intimating them that the lawmakers and the Executive, are all putting heads together to ensure that the problem of insecurity is brought to an end. The Service Chiefs led by the Chief of Defence Staff have assured us that they have the formula to end this issue of insecurity.

“And we are believing in them, because we have seen efforts in the recent past, indicating that they are serious in tackling insecurity and bringing it to an end. So we urged them to keep up the efforts because Nigerians are simply tired.
