The reasons for the removal of political billboards and posters of political parties across the Sokoto metropolis by SURDB has been clarified. The Special Adviser to Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal of Sokoto State on Urban and Regional Planning Board, Sidi Aliyu Lamido, while addressing newsmen in his office on Monday said the exercise was embarked upon to sanitize the society against indiscriminate pasting of posters in the state.

He said the exercise, which was carried out alongside security agencies, representatives of some of the political parties in the state was never to witch-hunt anyone irrespective of their political parties’ affiliations.

The SA explained that the exercise was as a result of a meeting with representatives of all political parties in the state alongside traditional rulers on how to tackle irregular pasting of billboards and posters.

Lamido, however said the exercise which is part of the routine exercise of the board was not meant to target any political parties as every poster and roadside billboards without approval were removed accordingly.

We had already agreed unanimously with the leaders of political and traditional rulers that the pasting of posters and erecting of billboards is becoming rampant in the state.  Posters have been pasted even in the mosque, market among many others he added.

“We agreed with them and that is why the operation was successful as we moved alongside political parties and security agencies,” the SA affirmed,

He also stated that the objective was to control all the illegal posters and billboards especially within the state capital.

The SA also advised the general public especially those who intend to paste posters to follow due processes.
