Security forces kill 10 kidnappers, rescue 39 captives

Combined efforts of security operatives in Bauchi engaged in a serious battle with suspected kidnappers that led to the killing of 10 of them while 39 captives were rescued recently.

Those rescued were victims of last Thursday’s kidnapping in Yankari forest of Alkari Local Government Area in Bauchi State.

Our reporter in Bauchí reports that the breakdown of the saved victims includes 28 adult males, eight adult females, and three infants who were safely rescued and subsequently reunited with their respective families after a medical check-up at the General Hospital in Alkaleri Local Government Area of the state.

A press statement signed and issued to journalists in Bauchi, by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, said on September 15, 2023, the Police Command’s Operation Sharan Daji team in conjunction with relevant stakeholders (Hunters) led by CSP Makama Magaji embarked on the rescue mission.

Bauchi police spokesman, Wakil explained that the security team acted on credible intelligence and swiftly ransacked the suspected kidnapper’s enclave and engaged the culprits in a heavy gun battle.

“The police consequently emerged victorious as a result of superior firepower against the criminals, leading to the death of 10 criminals while others ran into different directions with bullet wounds”, Wakil said.

Wakil gave the rescued kidnap victims as Muhammadu Sardauna of Sabon Layi, Meshack Isyaku of Kafi, Mustapha Muhammadu of Sabon Jiri; Marafa Kasu of Gargankufai, Sale Dan Asabe of Badakoshin Pali, Alh Amadu Hassan of Sabon Layi, and Saddik Isa of Sabon-Jiri.

Others rescued include Mannirul Hassan of Kafi, Aminu Alhaji Baushe of Anguwan Gyero, Rabiu Adamu of Alkaleri, Yahaya Abubakar of Alkaleri, Hamisu Hashim of Gaji Gamu, and Muhammadu Bello of Anguwan Gyero, Babangida Makeri of Badakoshi, Yunusa Adamu of Kwalele, and Galadima Iliyasu of Tollon.

Others include Isa Dan-Biran of Tollon, Hashimu Sarkin Busa of Tollon, Muhammadu Shuaibu of Dan, Kalik Dahiru of Dagudi, Aliyu Yakubu of Gaji, Alhaji Kamilu of Unguwan Gyero, Ahmadu Yari of Duguri, Mohammad Ali of Dan, Dan Lami Samaila of Dan, Rabiu Barde of Sabon-Jiri, Yakubu Muhammad of Gaji, and Yakubu Musa of Mun.

SP Ahmed Wakil similarly gave the rescued female victims as Khadija Abbas of Gaji and Usaina Muhammadu Sani of Duguri, Rose Bulus of Duguri, Hakuda Adamu of Gaji, Shamsiya Abdulhakim of Duguri;vFatima Sunusi of Duguri, Maimuna Iliyasu of Duguri, as well as Aisha Yusuf of Gaji.

According to the police spokesperson, the kidnappers demanded the sum of N50 million from each of the 39 victims. Giving a total lump sum of N1.95bn as a ransom before the successful rescue operation by the “Operation Sharan Daji” which put all their plans in futility.

The Bauchi State Police Commissioner, CP Auwal Musa Muhammad commended the operatives for their gallantry, and selfless service to the nation and humanity, reassuring the citizens of the state that the war against crimes and criminality will soon be won.

The CP Auwal Muhammad called for continuous support for the police and other law enforcement agencies, promising that the security agencies will not rest on their oars until normalcy is restored in every part of the state.

He called on the general public to provide the security apparatus with vital information on any suspected moves by any person or group in the society.
