Sokoto records success in crime prevention

The Sokoto State Police Command has between 15TH NOVEMBER and 13TH DECEMBER 2022 recorded tremendous success in its crime prevention and protection of innocent citizens of the state.

The State’ Commissioner of Police Gumel, stated this Tuesday 13th November 2022 while briefing journalist on the success recorded and achievement scorecard of the Command.

The commissioner also boasted that the current socio-economic activities across Sokoto State are thriving as a result of regular police raids of crime prone locations and other crime prevention measures.

He said these has led to the success stories recorded at some local government areas of the state such as Gwadadabawa, Wammakko, Isa Local Governme Areas of the state where criminal conspiracy, armed robbery, extortion, cattle rustling, and illegal possession of prohibited firearm thrive.

According to him, on 04/12/2022, a team of policemen attached to Salame Division supported by Anti Kidnapping Unit of the SCIID struck within the community of Illela Baraya in Salame District, Gwadabawa LGA and arrested one Abdullahi Bello ‘M’ of Dogon Tsamiya village in Gwadabawa in possession of one Ak-47 rifle with breech No. 1913 and three (03) rounds of life ammunition.

Abdullahi was arrested while he and his collaborators launched banditry attack on the village which attracted a quick reaction by the Police and led to one of the bandits, Ibrahim Tungar Kwangi being subdued and neutralized through exchange of gun fire.

He also stated that upon interrogation, the suspect confessed that he committed the crimes alongside one Aliyu Tunga Kwangi and one other person. And disclosed that investigation into the case is progressing.

He opined that the lesson learned is that all the arrested bandits are indigenes of the state, including the Wammakko Local Government Area car-theft specialist.

The commissioner also disclosed that on 17/11/2022, at about 2000hrs, one Mohammad Auwal Umar ‘M’ of Bado quarters, Sokoto, reported that he parked his Toyota Camry vehicle, black color model, 3000 V6, and chassis No. JTI 53 VV100009294, valued at one Million, five hundred thousand Naira, (N 1,500,000) at his residence and somehow, some opportunistic criminals dishonestly made away with the said vehicle from where it was parked

Also, on 18/11/2022 at about 1130hrs, fortunately, the vehicle was sighted at Bakori town in Katsina State and the case was followed up by the police and one Ukashatu Usman and Yakubu Umar both ‘M’ of Tambuwal LGA, Sokoto State were arrested, and they all confessed to the commission of the crime.

In the course of investigation, another accomplice, one Bilya Umar ’M’ at Kurna Area of Kano State was also arrested and in the overall, some vehicles were recovered from the syndicate including Pontiac Vibe, maroon color. Reg. No. AQ-615-SKS, valued three million naira (N3,000,000.00). CARINA STATION WAGON, red in color, valued at one million naira (N1, 000, 000). Toyota First Lady, Ash in color, reg. No. AS 415 BGD, valued at one million two hundred thousand naira (N 1,200,000.00).

He also stated that there were arrest of members of a kidnapping gang on 04/12/2022. At About 1435 hrs, one Suleman Musa reported at the SCID, Sokoto that around 1400hrs, unknown persons conspired and kidnapped his son; one Musa Suleman aged 7yrs and kept him at an unknown destination for four days in captivity until the sum of 4-million-naira ransom was extorted from the family members after which the boy was released.

Police investigation identified one Haliru Riskuwa, who is a neighbor to the family and popularly known as a.k.a name “Lopetee” ‘M’ of Arkilla State Low-Cost Area in Sokoto and was subsequently arrested. Police investigations revealed that he confessed how he conspired alongside his other gang members, one Abdullahi Umar ‘M’ and Faruku Usman Binji of Plateau State and Binji LGA, Sokoto State respectively.

All the suspects according to the Commissioner are in police custody except Faruk Usman Binji who is still at large even as so far, two million, five hundred thousand Naira (N2,500,000.00) cash have been recovered as exhibit from the suspects.
