Stop hiding sexual violations, NGO cautions communities

Motherhen Development Foundation MDF, has embarked on an awareness creation campaign on the dangers of gender based violence and the need to protect the rights of children in some rural communities in Gombe and Borno States.

The organization also called on these communities to stop covering up cases of rape and other sexual violations but report such to authorities for immediate action.

The awareness campaign which took the Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) to some communities in Balanga and Kwami LGAs in Gombe State and Biu LGA in Borno State witnessed interactions between stakeholders in the communities on ways to curb the menace.

At the palace of the Folo Dadiya, Alhaji Abdulkadir Abubakar Galadima, in Bambam, Balanga LGA, who spoke through the Wazirin Dadiya, Malam Umar Lamuwa, the royal father described the activities of Mortherhen Foundation as community service. He urged them to expand their commitment to women that are not responsible due their failure at the homefront.

Earlier, the Programme Officer, Morthehen Development Foundation, Miss Linda Ayuba and the Communication Officer, Hajiya Habiba Isah, sensitized the people on the ills of some traditional practices that endanger the women folk and other gender base violence as well as the protection of the rights of the child in the society.

In Bojude, Kwami LGA of Gombe State, the District Head appreciated Morthehen Development Foundation for their zeal and commitment and advised the organization to expand the programme to women who are fond of harassing their husbands in the society.

The foundation also organized a football matches in different secondary schools as part of their enlightenment campaign.

According to Miss Linda Ayuba and Hajiya Habiba Isah, the matches were organised with the aim of sensitizing the students on Child Rights Act, dangers of rape, HIV/AIDS and also to create an atmosphere for the students to interact with their friends.

In the cause of the enlightenment campaign, Morthehen Development Foundation also visited security agencies such as, the Police, Civil Defence to seek for their support and cooperation.
