From ABBAS GUNGURA, Bauchi

The eldest son of a renown Islamic Scholar in Africa, Sheikh Dahiru Uaman Bauchi, Sheikh Ibrahim Dahiru Usman Bauchi, has advised religious clerics in the country to stop utterances capable of inciting violence and threatening the peaceful co-existence among Muslims in the country.

Sheikh Ibrahim gave the advice when he interacted with journalists in his Bauchi residence recently in preparation for this year’s Eid el Maulud celebration. He said hatred and acrimony between religious clerics is fuelling verbal attack against one’s understanding by clerics.

He particularly urged the Ulamas to stop pointing accusing fingers at people that practice and believe in their faith which is not on the same page with their own when preaching.

He said mutual understanding and living in the age-long culture of harmonious coexistence was necessary to ensure stability in the polity. Ibrahim enjoined Nigerians to stop cursing their leaders because of the current hardship in the country.

“Hardship or enjoyment are all from almighty Allah. What Nigerians should do at this trying moment is to return to Allah. He expressed optimism that things would change for the better.

“What is expected of us is patience and prayers, and we must stand up to make things better in our own way through legitimate ways.

” We must desist from abusing or cursing our leaders. Great Islamic scholars like Shehu Tijjani, Sheikh Ibrahim, Shehu Abdulkadir and Shehu Othman Dan – Fodiyo did not deserve insults from any good Muslim due to their contributions towards the development of Islam. And secondly, they are among the exalted servants of Allah. And we should not involve ourselves in corrupt practices and other atrocities because our religion preaches against it. We must change for the better and remain committed to the peace and development of our society,” he said.

The scholar, while emphasising on unity, appealed to Muslims to practice religious rights in accordance with Islamic teachings and avoid any action that would cause disharmony among Muslim ummah.
