TASTE sinks borehole for Plateau NUJ

THE Society for Transfer Appropriate Sustainable Technology and Expertise (TASTE) Nigeria, has constructed a ten thousand (10,000) capacity litres solar panel borehole worth five million Naira and donated it to Plateau State Chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).

TASTE, supported by Dan Walker Portion Taste UK, undertook this project based on request by the Executive Council of NUJ for the secretariat to have access to portable and clean water. It obliged and immediately swung into action to drill, construct and hand over to the union, Tuesday June 20,2023.

Presenting the project to NUJ, the Chief Executive Officer of TASTE Nigeria, Ben Odejiofor, said the gesture was part of their social corporate responsibility to the Nigeria Union of Journalists who have been partners in telling the world about their activities and deemed it fit to support when the request came to their table.

He commended all those who took part in seeing that the project has a success story. In addition, it will benefit not only NUJ members but its immediate community.

They called on journalists to imbibe the policy of ensuring that truth, integrity and objectivity are reflected in their reportage was guaranteed for the development of our society.

Responding on behalf of the NUJ, the Plateau State Chairman , Mr. Paul Jatau, thanked TASTE Nigeria for taking the pain to proffer solution to water shortage in the secretariat complex. And prayed that this relationship would continue between them as they look forward to reporting their activities when called upon.

On his part, the Project Officer of TASTE Nigeria, Jonathan Makar, disclosed that the project was supported by Dan Walker Protion UK at the cost of five million naira where similar interventions were made in other states. He urged the union to take ownership of the project jealously.

Also, the Secretariat of TASTE Nigeria, Dr. Julie Ampye, said water formed 60% of human body and the project would go a long way promoting the health of NUJ members. She called on them to manage well the project by keeping watch.

There was a ceremonial cutting of tape by the Chief Executive Officer of TASTE Nigeria, Ben Odejiofor, as he was flagged by the NUJ Chairman, Paul Jatau, and his executive members. There was also symbolic opening water.
