ATBU shutdown to avoid breakdown of law and order

Following the unfortunate murder of a final year Geology Student of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Bauchi on Sunday 3rd-12-2023, by unknown killers, the management of the university has announced the immediate closure of its academic activities for one week to avoid continued protest embarked by the students.

The Director, Media of the university, Mallam Zailani Bappah made this known to journalists during a press briefing at ATBU Guest House Bauli Inchi, where he said the decision was taken in order to prevent violence by the students on peaceful demonstration over the death of late Joseph Agabaidu.

Zailani said all students were directed to immediately vacate the campus in Yelwa and Gubi. Adding that the Management will resume school activities when students are back to their senses.

According to him, “Security Department of the university has been directed to ensure that the students leave the two premises immediately and close all the hostels. If any student refuses to leave the campus, measures will be taken against such.”

“For the purpose of clarity, the said student was murdered, though a student of the university, but was staying outside the campus and the university has limited knowledge of students outside the campuses, ” Zailani explained.

“As soon as the University Security Department got the information of the murder, it immediately reported to the police for proper investigation. The institution has done what it is expected to do.”

He assured that the university management is ready to collaborate with the security agents to unravel the circumstances surrounding the cause of the murder and those involved.

“In spite of the efforts of the management to douse the tension and allow Police to investigate and get to the bottom of the matter, the students refused to be pacified, threatening to go violent,” he said.

He assured that the management will continue to take adequate care of the welfare of the students, urging them to cooperate with the management in that regard.

Our correspondent reports that the Director Media hoped that after the end of the one week closure, the Students must have calmed down, tension gone down and normalcy returned so that school activities would continue as usual.
