TO reduce the impact of the present hardships being experienced due to economic hardships confronting citizens, women have been advised to take advantage of child spacing to ensure a better and healthier future.

The Social Behavioural Change and Communication (SBCC) Officer, Delivering Innovation in Self Care DISC Project, Society for Family Health (SFH), Asanato Joyce Isaac, gave the advice while on a sensitisation tour to Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau recently.

She disclosed that the self-care intervention was meant to empower women to take charge of their reproductive health to reduce the pressure on them and health workers.

Commending the Society for Family Health, the Director of Primary Health Care, Mangu Local Government Area, Mrs. Martha Hassan, said women now had no excuse to avoid child-spacing, knowing what the intervention meant to their health.

She added that since health workers had been trained on empathy-based counselling to support women in their self-injection journey, there was need for them to learn and discover their potentials by fully participating in order to develop themselves.

On his part, the Social Mobilisation Officer of Mangu Local Government Health Authority, Mr. James Tambes, reiterated the need for women to make a difference in their lives by appreciating the intervention to enjoy the benefits.

The sensitization tour was organised by the Society for Family Health, Delivering Innovation in Self-Care Project (DISC) in partnership with Plateau State Primary Health Care Board and the Mangu LGA Health Authority to mark the 2024 edition of the International Women’s Day.
