BASUG honours 2 prominent Indigenes

In recognition of his contributions towards uplifting the education sector in the state since assumption of office in 2019, as Bauchi State Governor, the Bauchí State University Authority, Gadau, has awarded Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed with an honorary Doctorate of Letters of the Instruction.

The university similarly awarded the state’s former governor, Malam Isah Yuguda, with an honorary degree in management.

Our correspondent in Bauchi reports that the teaming supporters of the former governor were appreciative of the award and therefore commended the university management for acknowledging that Mallam Isa Yuguda’s administration established the State University in 2011.

The Emir of Bauchi, Dr. Rilwanu Suleiman Adamu, who is the Chancellor of the University, presented the Honors Causa to Governor Bala Mohammed during the maiden convocation of the university recently.

While appreciating his conferment with doctorate degree (Honoris Causa), Doctor of Letters, Governor Mohammed reaffirmed his commitment to continue with reviving the education sector to meet global standard.

He said, “Pursuant to our determination to restore the educational sector, an education summit will be conducted in Bauchi this month.

“Like in primary and secondary educational institutions, our government is poised to provide infrastructural facilities and necessary support to state owned tertiary educational institutions to ensure hitch-free academic activities.

“To this end, the following activities have been carried out at the state university, a construction of three kilometers of roads at the Gadau Campus, extension of power supply to Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences; procurement of lab equipment and reagents; employment of 160 staff and collaboration with TETFUND to improve existing structures and build new ones.

“In the area of support for indigenes of the state to acquire higher education, we have since the inception of our administration in 2019, paid a total of N658,539,470:00 as scholarship to 32,987 students undergoing courses at various tertiary institutions,” Governor Mohammed said.

Mohammed called on students of the university to imbibe the culture and spirit of discipline, hard work, respect for lectures, university authority as well as refraining from anti-social behaviours and influence of bad company or peer group.

He employed the management of the institution to come up with ideas on how to overcome the increasing security challenges threatening the state and the nation, especially cyber crimes, kidnapping and other criminal activities.
