Bauchi Correspondents’ Chapel re-elects executive members

The Nigeria Union of Journalists NUJ, Correspondents Chapel Bauchi, has re-elected its past executive members to run the affairs of the chapel for another 3 years.

Those re- elected include: Ahmed Mohammed as Chairman, Auwal Hassan- Vice Chairman, Samuel Luka – Secretary, Khalid Idris Doya – Treasurer. The positions of Financial Secretary and Auditor went to Rauf Oyewole and Saad respectively.

The inauguration of the exco was officially conducted by the the state NAWOJ Chairperson, Hajiya Rashida Umar under the watchful eyes of Bauchi State NUJ Council Chairman, Comrade Umar Saidu. The NUJ Chairman admonished the new exco to carry all the members along while discharging their responsibilities.

“My own is just to play the role of the state council. Honestly, I want to advise that this issue of leadership is a sensitive one and a very difficult task but some people take it for granted.

“As the state council Chairman, I will continue to work towards ensuring that all the eleven chapels in the state continue to operate peacefully. I am ready to work with the leadership of the various chapels towards promoting the ethics of the job.

“I want to enjoin the Correspondents’ Chapel members to work as a team and forget about their differences. It is normal to disagree and agree, but please try as much as possible to carry everybody along. The chapels operate under the state council and as such, they are to try and report to the state council regularly.

“The state council will soon organize a meeting with all the elected leaders of the various chapels in the state, with a view to inform them about the new happenings at the national level of the union,” he said.

In his acceptance remarks, the re-elected Chairman, Malam Ahmed Mohammed expressed appreciation to the state council Chairman, Comrade Umar Sa’idu for his untiring support to the chapel.

He described the inauguration as historic in the chapel considering agreements, disagreements and heated political situation witnessed before the election. And expressed happiness that it all came to an end with the support of the state council Chairman.

“With his support, we were able to come back as one family in the Correspondents’ Chapel. We really appreciate the NUJ Chairman for using wisdom to address the heated political situation in the chapel,” he said.

Ahmed assured that the new Executives under his leadership will consolidate on the already existing achievements it has recorded in the last three years.

He however, appreciated the Credentials Committee Chairman, who is also the vice chairman of the state council, Ahmed Kaigama who alongside Selya Yarnap, ensured they conducted a successful and acceptable election.

“Despite the heated situation, they accepted to serve as members of the Credentials Committee. The executives and the entire members of the chapel would never forget the sacrifice you made. May Allah reward you abundantly”, he prayed.

Malam Ahmed who solicited for more support and cooperation from the members, appealed that the integrity of each person be respected in order to move together as one family.

In goodwill messages, members of the Chapel, Abbas Gungura, Bashir Hassan, Nasir Shuaibu and Austine Tsenzughul commended the reelected officials of the chapel for the successes recorded during their first tenure. They advised them that the tempo needs to be improved for the progress of the Union
