Bauchi launches guidelines for family planning commodities

In its determination to strengthen actions against maternal and newborn mortality across Bauchi State, Governor Bala Mohammed, has officially launched the National Guidelines for State Funded Procurement of Family Planning Commodities.

The intention was aimed at domesticating the global policy on family planning system through making the commodities available in all the health care facilities in the state.

The programme is a collaboration between the state Ministry of Health and United Nations Population Fund.

In his speech While inaugurating the programme at the Old Banquet hall of Government House Bauchi, the state Governor Bala Mohammed, informed that the development is an opportunity for state to address the alarming rate of maternal and newborn mortality.

Governor Bala ,who was represented at the occasion by the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Abubakar Sulaiman, stressed the need for effective synergy with Development Partners in universal health coverage and readiness to sustain adequate budgetary provision in the health care sector.

He expressed optimism that if properly implemented, the move would go a long way in improving the quality of lives of the citizens.

In their separate remarks, the representative of the United Nations Population Fund, Mrs Loide Okomgo and the Executive Chairman of the State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr. Rilwanu Muhammad, advocated for timely release of funds towards achieving the desired objectives.

They however called for increased awareness on the importance of birth spacing in both urban and rural areas to guarantee the well being of people.

The event also featured formal inauguration of the State Technical Committee on family planning and goodwill messages from Development Partners.
