Benue Speaker promises to intervene in rural electrification

The speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, Mr. Aondona Dajoh has promised that he will attract government presence to the people of Mbasur in the areas of rural electrification, education, health, portable water and roads.

The Speaker who was speaking recently at a thanksgiving mass and reception organised in his honour by Mbasur Community Development Association at the Church of Twelve Apostles Rectory, Pika Mbatiav in Gboko Local Government Area, pledged that he will serve his people with every resources that God will give him.

He promised to complete the Pika Police Station. It was initiated by a former House of Assembly member who represented the constituency, Mr. Terhemba Chabo.

The Gboko West state representative while recounting events that led to his emergence as Speaker said “to people, Mbannku is made up of the most uneducated and poorest people, who are very backward”.

He added that “Gbemacha people in the sight of others were equally regarded as naive in politics and so by every standard humanly possible, nobody thought they could produce the Speaker but God Almighty made it possible.”

Also speaking, the State Governor, Rev Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Alia, called on people of Mbatiav to guard the Speaker jealously because he was a promising young man who was not just useful to his immediate community but to Benue State at large.

Represented by his Chief of Staff, Mr. Paul Biam, Governor Alia also appealed to members of the Benue State House of Assembly to always put interest of the state first and shun all other temptations and support Governor Alia who, he maintained was already doing his best to return the state to its lost glory.

Chairman of the occasion, Mr. Tersoo Orgudwem while thanking Mbasur community for the honour done to the Speaker and his younger brother, called on Mbatiav people to close ranks and support the speaker in order to bring development to the community.

Earlier, President of Mbasur Community Development Association, Mr. Peter Akumbur said the thanksgiving mass was organised to appreciate God for uplifting their son, Mr. Dajoh to the position of speaker and also seek his support for the church building project.

He added that the occasion also afforded them the opportunity to draw government’s attention to the many challenges confronting the community.

The speaker was accompanied on the event by other members of the state Assembly as well as people from all walks of life.
