Boosting morale of officers, my priority – Customs CG

The Comptroller- General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, has declared that provision of welfare packages to boost morale of customs officers across the country is his priority.

Adeniyi made this declaration in Ibadan on Monday while speaking during the flag-off and hand -over of houses to beneficiaries of Coop Pacesetter Estate built for customs officers in Oyo/ Osun Area Command.

Adeniyi explained that his aim was to provide welfare packages in all areas of human endeavours so as to boost morale of customs officers across the country.

The Customs boss, while presenting keys of the buildings to the beneficiaries, maintained that the organisation decided to build 5,000 housing units for customs officers in the country so as to address the problems officers face while looking for accommodation.

Addressing the officers at the event attended by senior Customs officers, representative of Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde and Cooperative Mortgage Bank, the Customs CG explained that provision of houses to the officers would help to ensure that the officers invest in their families and future.

He added that this will allow them to serve the nation more effectively.

Adeniyi further said that the organisation has institutionalised various welfare packages so as to ensure that the officers serve the country with enthusiasm and confidence.

The Customs boss said, “It is a great pleasure for me to hand over the keys of these houses to the members of the cooperative. It is to ensure the overall welfare of the officers.

“It is part of our efforts to prioritise the welfare of our officers. We are focusing on mental, physical and overall welfare and well-being of our officers to ensure optimum performance.

“We have institutionalised an array of welfare packages to boost morale of officers across the country.

“We are empowering our officers to involve in community activities and community services so as to foster harmonious relationships between the Customs and the public.

“In our efforts to address the problem faced by officers while looking for accommodation, we have decided to build 5,000 housing units in Lagos, Kaduna, Kano, Ibadan, Giri, Masala and Port-Harcourt.

“This in turn will provide a foundation of stability for our officers, allowing them to invest in their families and future and ultimately serve our nation even more effectively”, Adeniyi stated.
