Borno govt flags-off fertilizers distribution

The Deputy Governor of Borno state,Alh Umar Usman Kadafur, has flagged off distribution of 300 tons of fertilizers to farmers to signify the commencement of agricultural activities this farming season across the state.

He said that,the early distribution of the fertilizer was to delibrately  plan to coincide with farmers’ planting period.

Governor Babagana Umara Zullum, who was represented by his Deputy at the flag-off ceremony held Kwaya Kusar, disclosed that, “To ensure a hitch free distribution exercise, a monitoring distribution  panel has been set up,” noting that this will prevent the diversion of the commodity to targeted farmers in the 27 local government areas of the state.

According to him,180 trucks of fertilizer(300 tons) were earmarked for distribution to farmers to boost agricultural production during the season.

Giving the  breakdown of distribution, the Commissioner of Agriculture, Alhaji Bukar Talba, disclosed that 180 trucks would be distributed to nine councils in the south senatorial districts with each local council area is to receive 10 trucks for its farmers.

The Deputy GOVERNOR expressed the administration’s determined not only to raise farmers’ productivity, but in line with the 10-point development agenda of Governor Babagana Umara Zullum stressing that, the distribution of  the fertilizer will also enhance living conditions of rural farmers that constitute the majority population of the electorates.

He noted that fertilizer is one of the most important farming input to improve agricultural production as local manure was grossly inadequate to meet farmers’ demands.
