THE Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Services, Disaster Management and Social Development, has embarked on a survey on victims of terrorism and has gotten a data of people affected by terrorism in Plateau State for possible intervention by the Federal Government in no distant time.

This took place at a conference held at the New Era Hotel, Hwolshe in Jos-South Local Government Area of Plateau State after undertaking a survey across the affected areas and was able to have over eighty people in the state.

The Honourable Minister for Humanitarian Services, Disaster Management and Social Development, Hajiya Sadiya Faruq, represented by one of her Directors, Mrs. Dinatu Wuyah, said the ministry was passionate and concerned about the plight of these victims of terrorism that have been traumatized.

She said, “The intention of this programme is to get the data of victims of terrorism and those affected by bomb blasts that happened in Plateau State. This is not the only state that we have visited in Nigeria because the country is facing serious insecurity.

“The Federal Government is not leaving any stone unturned to counter insurgency and we want to get their data for possible government intervention and that is why we came. We want to see the people and get information about them”, she highlighted.

On his part, the Project Manager of the programme, Mr. Michael Ogun, said, “You will recall that over time, we have series of attacks across the country and this is the first time that the Federal Ministry for Humanitarian Services, Disaster Management and Social Development led by Hajiya Sadiya Faruq, is coming to the rescue of victims of terrorism.

“The ministry has been carrying out interventions in several aspects, but we feel that those who have been affected by terrorism should be part of our intervention. That is why we are making a proper data collection of those affected to get intervention for them to feel the sense of belonging as Nigerians.

“We came to identify them and know who and who is involved so that, we will be able to come out with something. For now, we have 80 persons on the Plateau and we believe that there are more because this is a pilot thing and we know that there are other people with similar incidents, but, at least, this to show that government is concerned”, he enthused.

There were several groups of CSOs in attendance including Stefano’s Foundation where forms were distributed and filled by the beneficiaries as they were seen taking every detail  of the victims, photographs for record purposes.
