THE Emir of Gombe, Alhaji Abubakar Shehu Abubakar, has bestowed on the Governor of Gombe State, Alhaji Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya, the traditional title of the ‘Dan-majen Gombe’

The message of the Emir was delivered to the Governor in his residence by a powerful eight man delegation of prominent Nigerians led by the former Governor of Bauchi State, Alhaji Ahmed Adamu Mu’azu recently.

Also present to witness the presentation of the Emir’s message was the immediate past Governor of Bauchi State, Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar.

The former Bauchi State Governor who cautioned that his appearance was not political, stated that it was because of his relationship with the Gombe Royal Family.

He said they were sent by the Emir because the Emir has seen the Governor’s excellent performance in Gombe State.

A member of the delegation, Mohammad Kabiru Ahmed, former Director General of Pencom and current chairman of Polaris Bank, said “the Emir has seen what you’ve done and work is ongoing in the area of health, education, roads and erosion control where we have witnessed reduced destruction of houses due to flooding”.

According to him, the Emir had been open to advice and that is the reason why they were convinced to bring the message.

He also added that “Our coming is not political”.

He then called on a courtier from the Palace of the Emir of Gombe, Alhaji Usman Adamu to deliver the Emir’s message, saying “We’ve been asked to deliver a message from the Emir and the Sallaman Gombe, (Alhaji Usman Adamu) will present the address”.

The Sallaman Gombe, Alhaji Usman Adamu, whose job was to simply make the pronouncement, said “the Emir of Gombe, Alhaji Abubakar Shehu Abubakar, has asked us to come to you with a message that you have been honoured with the traditional title of ‘Dan-majen Gombe’”, he declared.

A Senior member from the Governor’s extended family, Alhaji Mohammed Bello Umaru, gave  thanks on behalf of the family (lineage).

After giving a historical background of their lineage in Gombe and their relationship with the Emirate since the time of Late Emir Haruna, he said they have remained peaceful and grew up to find their parents in a peaceful relationship with the Emirate.

He expressed happiness that their brother is honoured with a traditional title in Gombe Emirate, adding “we are happy with what he has done in Gombe State and we are not ashamed of him.

In an interview with Journalists shortly after the presentation and the gift of a horse, Governor Yahaya thanked the Emir for the honour and said, “I will be more inspired, will not be discouraged. It means more service, more dedication and more delivery of good services to the people of Gombe State and particularly, the people of Gombe Emirate”.

He said, “I believe it’s a mark of honour in the recognition of what I’ve been doing, so, it will make me to do more so that I will not disappoint His Royal Highness and the good people of Gombe State”.
