Kogi NUJ elects new officials

Seidu Ademu of the Kogi State Ministry of Information and Communications Chapel, has emerged as the new Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Kogi State Council.

The new Chairman emerged at the Triennial Delegates Congress of the union held in Lokoja, recently.

National President of the NUJ, Chris Isiguzo, while speaking at the event, charged journalists not to relent in effective dissemination of information that would impact on the lives of citizens.

Isiguzo, who was represented by the Vice President Zone ( D) of the union, Chris Atasaka, commended members for their cooperation with the immediate past chairman, Adeiza Momojimoh of Kogi Council to have a rancour free election.

Seidu in his acceptance speech, solicited the support of journalists, with a charge to them to continue to embrace objective, balanced and unsensational reportage.

Earlier, the former NUJ Chairman, Adeiza Momohjimoh, appreciated members for their support towards the success of his administration while in office.

Adeiza called on journalists in the state to extend the same support to the new administration to make the union more united than before.

Adeiza said that his administration gave a face-lift to the union’s infrastructure with a plea to the incoming leadership to ensure that the facilities are put into proper use.

In a paper presentation, the Guest Speaker, Prof. Gbenga Ibileye, Provost, College of Postgraduate Studies of the Federal University, Lokoja, identified sensational, unbalanced and biased reportage as challenges of the media.

He urged journalists to embrace the spirit of facts verifying in the discharge of their duties.

He said the implications of the challenges faced by the media as the fourth estate of the realm, affects other arms of government and institutions

Others elected in the new executive include : Obansa Ibrahim, Vice Chairman, Segun Oyenibi, Secretary; Adebija Sunday- Treasurer; Atuluku Samuel, Assistant Secretary, Abdulsalaam Mohammed, Financial Secretary and Josephine Ali, Auditor.
