NCC concludes 2023 Nigerian Telecommunications Indigenous Context Expo

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) recently concluded the 2023 Nigerian Telecommunications Indigenous Context Expo, an event dedicated to fostering the development of indigenous content in the country’s telecommunications sector.

The expo brought together key stakeholders to engage in discussions surrounding indigenous content development, skills gaps in the telecoms sector, and other pertinent issues.

During the expo, the Executive Vice Chairman of the NCC, Prof. Umar Danbatta, who was represented by the NCC’s Executive Commissioner of Technical Services, Engr. Ubale Maska, delivered a thought-provoking speech. Prof. Danbatta emphasised the importance of indigenous content development in the telecom industry, highlighting its potential to drive innovation, create employment opportunities and enhance the economy.

Engr. Ubale Maska, in his speech, further underscored the NCC’s commitment to bridging the skills gaps within the telecoms sector. He acknowledged the significance of equipping Nigerian professionals with the required skills to fully participate in the rapidly evolving telecommunications industry. Maska stressed the commission’s dedication to providing necessary training and capacity-building programmes to enhance the workforce’s knowledge and expertise.

Addressing the skill gaps within the telecom industry, Engr. Babagana Digima, the Team Lead of the Nigeria Office for Developing the Indigenous Telecom Sector (NODITS), delivered an insightful presentation.
Digima shed light on the current skills gaps in the telecom sector and proposed strategies to bridge these gaps effectively. He emphasised the need for continuous professional development, collaborations with academic institutions, and the promotion of vocational training to enhance the industry’s workforce.

The expo provided a platform for telecommunications companies, government institutions, industry experts, and other stakeholders to deliberate on the way forward for indigenous content development. Various discussions and panels were organised, focusing on crucial topics such as local content policies, infrastructure development, and job creation within the sector.

Furthermore, the event showcased innovative solutions, products, and services developed by local telecommunications companies, igniting hope for the potential growth of Nigeria’s telecom industry.

The 2023 Nigerian Telecommunications Indigenous Context Expo organised by the NCC proved to be an important milestone in driving indigenous content development and addressing the skills gaps in the country’s telecom sector.

The speeches by the Executive Vice Chairman of the NCC, Prof. Umar Danbatta, and Engr. Ubale Maska, as well as the presentation by Engr. Babagana Digima, emphasised the significance of these issues, highlighting the NCC’s commitment to fostering growth, innovation, and inclusivity within the Nigerian telecommunications industry.
