PLSG to construct housing units for civil servants

PLATEAU State Government has concluded plans to partner with the Federal Housing Authority (FHA) to construct affordable housing for civil servants through a “Smart Housing Units” to ease their accommodation needs in the capital city.

The Governor, Barr. Caleb Mutfwang, who was represented by the State Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Hon. Joshua Ubandoma Laven, disclosed this shortly after a meeting with the delegation from the Federal Housing Authority (FHA) led by Hauwa Babakobi in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The Governor said, “The construction of Jos Smart Housing Units is a project that is top priority to the state government. That is why the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development has engaged FHA in high level discussion to ensure this people oriented project becomes a reality.

“The State Government’s representatives have also met with the leader of the delegation of Shelter Afrique, Mrs. Elizabeth Ogonegbu, who is the Country Regional Representative to help in providing or aiding the developer with one digit interest loan.

SUNDAY STANDARD discovered that the Shelter Afrique, a Pan-African Finance Institution is exclusively supporting the development of affordable housing and real estate sector in African countries to help cushion the accommodation problem across the continent.

The commissioner, on behalf of the government, also said that affordable housing would play a crucial role in improving the lives of individuals and families to help foster social stability and contribute to the overall well-being of the people especially in this harsh economic condition.

He further explained that the project, when completed, would curb insecurity, provide employment for the productive unemployed youths roaming the streets and encourage communal lifestyle that such housing plays in promoting social stability in the society.
